1. Report Your Sales

Download the sales report form to report your catalog sales for November 1, 2012 through January 31, 2013. (You can also use whatever report your POS provides.) Reporting your sales earns you a $20 cash rebate when you submit the rebate request form below.

2. Request Rebates
Reporting your sales qualifies you to request additional rebates if you…

  • Rented a mailing list
  • Inserted catalogs into a local newspaper
  • Ran a print ad in a local publication

Download and complete the rebate request form, indicate your chosen promotional method(s), and send it to us along with your sales report to receive your check.

3. Enter Your Customers into Our Gift Card Drawing

Mail us your customers’ completed 10% off coupons from the back of the catalog to enter them in our $25 gift card drawing. We hold a random drawing in which the first 10 customers we draw receive the prize. We send the store where the customer submitted the coupon $25 to reimburse the store for providing a gift card to the winning customer.

4. Send Us a Quote
Please send us a successful story to help us promote the strength of our catalog. If you have suggestions on what we can improve in 2013, please share those as well. All comments are important. Please email your comments to Carrie Obry at carrie@midwestbooksellers.org.

Thank you again for your active participation. As always, please contact us directly if you have any questions.

In-Store and Online Marketing

1. Use POS items to market the catalog in your store.
Download and print these marketing tools to promote the catalog in your store: bookmark, shelf-talker, and catalog cover posters (available in three sizes). With the posters, download the version with a tagline for a print-ready option. Alternately, download the version without a tagline if you’d like to insert your store’s logo and unique marketing information.

2. Keep the catalog titles in stock and track your sales.
Download the complete title list in Excel or PDF file and keep monitoring your stock. In addition, track your sales from November 1, 2012 to January 31, 2013 so you can receive the sales reporting rebate from MIBA (see below).

Above the Treeline and Edelweiss can help you monitor your stock of our winter catalog titles.

If you subscribe to Above the Treeline, there’s a special tool called the regional watch list. On the Treeline home page, there are three columns: Panorama, Title Lists, and Drilldowns. Click on “Title Lists,” then “Watch Lists,” then “Special: Regional.” MIBA is the second option. Click on it to see the pie chart. You can also click on the link that says “View All Titles.”

If you haven’t subscribed to Treeline but use Edelweiss’s free service, you can create your own “collection” of winter catalog titles on Edelweiss. Go to our catalog title list where all ISBNs are listed. Copy the ISBNs, go to the Collections tab, create a collection, and paste in the ISBNs to add the titles to your collection. From there, you can create and download an order for specific titles into your POS.

If you need help with any of this, please contact support at Above the Treeline, (734) 996-2730, option 1 or email support@abovethetreeline.com.

Lisa Baudoin at Books & Company says, “The MIBA catalog watch list on ATL provides a very quick and easy way to review the sales and on-hand quantity. During the holiday rush, it provides me with an easy-to-digest assessment of where we are with each title. It helps me to see trends both in my store and within the region. In the end, it makes my buy for the catalog stronger.”

3. Put the catalog on your store’s website.
Post one of the banner ads below to your website and link it to the online Issuu version of the catalog, where your customer can read the catalog like a magazine by turning the pages with just one click.

4. Integrate a shoppable version of the catalog to your e-commerce website.

For IndieCommerce stores
A unique shoppable catalog page for every IndieCommerce store has been added automatically to the IndieCommerce website. If you are an IndieCommerce store, simply publicize this link to lead customers to your version of the catalog that links directly to your shopping cart:

http://www.yourstore.com/holiday/MIBA/2012MIBAcatalog.html

For example, the Book Shelf in Winona, MN would be:

http://www.bookshelfwinona.com/holiday/MIBA/2012MIBAcatalog.html

Customers who buy books from this page will be ordering directly from your IndieCommerce shopping cart.

For non-IndieCommerce stores
If you would link to link the catalog to another e-commerce platform, we’ve given you a head start and created a webpage that has the layout, styling, images, and information from the catalog on it, but no “Buy Now” link. All you have to do is add the code for your own “Buy Now” button and add it to your site. Download this Zip file, which contains the page and images you need to implement this option.

5. Rebates
We’re offering the same rebates we offered in 2011.

  • Renting a mailing list: 4 cents per name up to $100
  • Doing a newspaper insertion: 4 cents per catalog up to $100
  • Running a print ad: We refund up to $50 of the cost of the ad
  • Reporting your sales: We refund $20

Download and use the following two items to receive your rebate. Requests are due by February 15, 2013.

New for 2012
Free catalogs
This year, we’re offering an extra box of free catalogs, making this year’s total 5 free boxes, or 1,000 catalogs. Not coincidentally, this is the minimum order for customization.

Special offer: Customization discount
As an incentive to encourage you to try new approaches to the catalog, we’re incorporating special offers into the program. This year, we’re offering a discount on custom catalogs to encourage you to give customization and direct mail a try. Last year, standard catalogs cost $15.00 per box and customized catalogs cost $25.00 per box. This year, we’re offering a special rate of just $15.00 per box, whether you choose standard or customized. Based on 2011′s store usage, this is a savings of $8,400 we’re passing on to you!

Make It Yours
We encourage you to use the catalog to create a unique sales approach that works for your store. Each member store receives 1,000 (5 boxes) free catalogs upon request. In addition, you can . . .

  • Customize catalogs with your logo and other store information, making it look like your catalog. (See samples in the 2012 Store Info and Ordering Packet.)
  • Use your contact list to mail catalogs to your customers’ homes direct from our printer.
  • Rent a mailing list to attract new customers.
  • Insert catalogs in your local newspaper.
  • Distribute the catalog creatively through a variety of in-store and off-site methods.

You’ll be surprised at how affordable many of these options are. See the ordering packet for a range of costs to help you budget your marketing plans.

If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to call Carrie at (612) 208-6279.
